"Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the city that kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to it! How often have I desired to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, and you were not willing!
See, your house is left to you, desolate.
For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'"
Matthew 23:37-39 NRSV
Jewish rejection of Jesus is chronicled in the Scriptures (qv).
In rejecting Jesus, the Jews had broken the Covenant Contract, leaving Jesus free to walk away and leave them to their own devices. Henceforth, the Lord would no longer go before them; instead, they would have to go forward in their own strength.
We can see the plight of the House of Desolation through contemporary Jewish History and in their current struggles against the overwhelming force of the House of Esau. Unless the House of Desolation change their allegiance, the outlook is bleak indeed.
Jesus has walked away from the House of Desolation. Nevertheless, He has offered them a way back:
For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, 'Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord.'" (Matthew 23:37-39 NRSV)
All the House of Desolation need do is return to Jesus - and He will then return to them.
Jesus points to the direction they need to take. But beware of oversimplification!
Those wishing to follow Jesus' guidance, must first understand the implications of His words.
No easy task; no easy path!
